A three-vehicle crash occurred in Brownhelm, Lorain, Ohio and resulted in the death of 28 year old Dale W. Welty of Vermilion, Ohio, and injuries for 25 year old Nicholas A. Kidd and 20 year old Christopher R. Dewitt of New London and Elyria, Ohio, respectively. Police reports are that on May 16, 2013 at approximately 5:25 pm, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am full size car and a 1994 Honda Civic compact car were headed north on County Route 51 (Baumhart Road), while a 2001 Ford F150 pickup was headed south on the same road. Kidd, who was driving the pickup allegedly went left of the center of the road and caused the 17 year old male driver of the Pontiac, Brandon S. Danicki of Amherst, Ohio, to drive right of the center of the road, in an attempt to avoid a collision. The pickup then sideswiped the Pontiac and struck a Honda Civic that was being driven by Welty, head on. The car was pushed off the east side of the roadway, where it struck a guardrail. The pickup overturned and slid off the east side of the roadway, where it also struck the guardrail. Welty was transported by Great Lakes Ambulance Service, Kidd was treated at the scene and Dewitt was transported by Lifeflight to Cleveland Metro Hospital. L & M Towing removed the Honda and the pickup from the scene.
