Ohio woman shot and killed after car accident

One woman in Ohio has died after being involved in a car accident. Though she initially survived the crash, she was shot by the driver who allegedly caused the accident. She was rushed to the hospital with multiple injuries and pronounced dead.

According to reports, the woman was driving through an intersection when a 29-year-old man ran the red light and slammed into the side of her car. The impact sent her vehicle skidding across the road, while the SUV the man was driving flipped and rolled on the pavement.

Both drivers then got out of their vehicles, and the man pulled out a semi-automatic rifle. Witnesses to the event say that the woman, a mother with three kids, raised her hands. The man shot her anyway.

One witness quickly called the police, but they arrived too late to stop the shooting.

The 29-year-old who caused the crash is a military veteran who served in Iraq. He was with the United States Marine Corps. Since he got back to the States, reports claim he’s battled drug addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder. Though the investigation continues, it will be interesting to see if this played a role, as the accident could perhaps have triggered a flashback to combat action in Iraq.

Naturally, there is far more going on here than a simple car accident, but it may be important to consider the way that a wrongful death lawsuit plays into things. A criminal sentence wouldn’t necessarily compensate the family financially like a wrongful death case could, and it can help the family seek justice even if factors like PTSD influence the eventual sentence and make it lighter than the family would like. This is a good example of why people must know all of their legal options.
