50 Year Old Injured as 2 Trucks Collide in Portage, Ohio

Two trucks crashed in Freedom, Portage, Ohio, and caused injuries for a 50 year old woman on January 15, 2014 at approximately 6:31 am. Police reports are that the trucks, a 1999 KW 900 tractor-semi and a 2007 Sterling 825 tractor double were headed east in the right lane of Interstate Route 80 at the Ohio Turnpike. The rear trailer axle of the KW tractor allegedly broke free and was struck by the Sterling truck. The KW truck was being driven by 64 year old Robert W. Strong of Atwater, Ohio, and the sterling truck was being driven by the woman, Minica S. Franks of Cleveland, Ohio. She was transported by Community EMS to Robinson Memorial. Interstate towing removed the trucks from the scene.

Accidents that were caused by equipment failure were 101 in 2011. Freedom, Portage, Ohio, whose population in 2012 was 2,751, suffered 43 injury crashes with 58 that resulted in injuries.
