Belmont OH, Truck Crash Injures 1 as Vehicles Caught Fire

An early morning crash occurred in Wheeling, Belmont, Ohio, on December 21, 2013 at approximately 8:50 am and resulted in injuries for a 51 year old man, Rickey J. Simmons of Hohenwald, TN. He was transported by New Athens EMS to Wheeling Hospital. Police reports are that the man was driving a 1999 Chevy Silverado pickup, south on State Route 9, while a 32 year old man of Dundee, Ohio, was driving a 2001 International truck, north on the same road. The driver of the truck allegedly went left of the center of the roadway while making a right curve and drove off the left side of the roadway. It then struck the guardrail as the pickup was off the west side of the roadway. The truck struck the pickup head-on and both vehicles caught fire as the occupants alighted from the vehicles. The driver of the truck was charged and it was towed by Bills’ while, Stonebrakers towed the pickup.

Accidents in which the vehicle caught fire/exploded were a total of 27 which caused injuries. Wheeling, Belmont, Ohio, whose population in 2012 was 1,477; suffered 13 injury crashes, which resulted in 20 injuries.
