A two-vehicle crash occurred and resulted in injuries for two boys, Justyce Vanmeter 10, and Keqhan Vanmeter 9, in Shawnee, Allen, Ohio, on November 9, 2013. Reports from the OSHP are that a 30 year old man of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Nathan A. Vanmeter, was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am midsize car, south on State Route 501, while a 31 year old woman was driving a 2011 Honda Odyssey van south on Norfolk Road. The woman allegedly failed to yield to the driver of the Pontiac, as she attempted to turn onto State Route 501. The Pontiac struck the Honda in the side and went off the right side of the roadway. Both boys were occupants of the Pontiac, while two other occupants of the van, Breece A. Phillips 5, and Macy R. Phillips 7 were not injured.
Stop signs were a contributing factor in 7,331 injury crashes in Ohio in 2010. Shawnee, Allen, Ohio, had a population of 12,220 in 2012; 56 injury crashes occurred and resulted in 92 injuries.
